Twenty-six thousand cats. In 2026.
That is a milestone worth celebrating.
This year, Fresno TNR officially crossed the 26,000 mark for cats spayed and neutered, giving us one of those rare moments where the number and the year line up perfectly:
26K in ’26.
It sounds catchy, but behind those four words are thousands of individual cats, thousands of hours of work, and thousands of people who chose to help.
Every one of those 26,000 cats has a story.
Some were community cats living behind businesses, in apartment complexes, alleys, neighborhoods, or backyards. Some were friendly cats whose caregivers simply needed access to affordable spay and neuter services. Some were mothers who will never again have to struggle to raise another litter. Others were roaming males whose lives are now safer and healthier because someone took the time to trap, transport, and return them.
And none of it happened because of one person.
It happened because volunteers set traps before sunrise and picked them up after dark.
It happened because people transported cats, cleaned equipment, worked events, answered messages, coordinated appointments, donated money, sponsored surgeries, shared posts, and stepped up whenever help was needed.
It happened because someone saw a cat and decided, “I’m going to do something.”
One cat became ten.
Ten became one hundred.
One hundred became one thousand.
And eventually, all of those individual acts of compassion became something extraordinary:
26,000 cats spayed and neutered in 2026.
